The problem

What usually hurts

If nothing on this list sounds like you, you probably don’t need this product — and we’ll say so.

  • Generic LMSs are built around courses, not around curricula, groups and semesters.
  • Work placements live in paper logbooks and diaries, outside any system.
  • Academic progress is compiled by hand before an inspection rather than being visible at any time.
  • Students cannot tell where they stand in the programme or what to complete first.
  • Teachers keep records twice: in the system and in a notebook, because the system is awkward to use.

What’s inside

Curricula and groups

The system is built on the programme’s curriculum, groups and semesters, not on a set of separate courses. Vocational education here is not a special case of a generic LMS — it is what everything is built around.

Placements and on-the-job training

Placements are managed in the system on a par with theory: host organisations, supervisors, reporting. This is usually missing from generic LMSs altogether.

A clear picture for students

What is done, what is left, what is urgent. Students see their path through the programme rather than a scatter of separate subjects.

Teacher’s workspace

Record-keeping takes minutes, not an evening. If a teacher finds a notebook more convenient, the system has been designed wrong.

The picture for administrators

Progress and attendance by group and programme at any moment, not the night before an inspection.

Why a separate product rather than configuring an existing LMS

Vocational education is not organised as a set of courses. There is a specialism and its curriculum, a group that goes through it together, semesters, and work placements — the part of training that happens entirely outside the college.

Generic systems allow for all of this, but as exceptions: the curriculum is replaced by a set of courses, the placement by a report file. Sheber is built from the model colleges already have.

The name

‘Sheber’ is Kazakh for ‘master’ — a skilled craftsman. A college turns a student into a master of their trade, and that is exactly what the product should support. The name is a working title: domain and trademark checks are not yet complete.

In development. We are not recruiting pilot colleges yet — first we are finishing the core: curricula, groups, placements. Contact details you leave will be used only to let you know when it is ready.

Questions

What people ask about Sheber

How is this better than Moodle or another generic LMS?

Not ‘better in general’, but closer to vocational education. Generic systems handle courses perfectly well, but curricula, groups and work placements get stretched over a model built for something else. If your process fits into courses, choose an off-the-shelf system — it is cheaper.

Is data exchange with government education systems planned?

That task is within scope, but we will not promise a specific list of integrations before they are built.

When will it launch?

We are not naming dates. First the core, then a pilot college, then a conversation about launch.
